Italcementi Group entered the Kazakh market in 1998 through the acquisition of ShymkentCement. The cement plant is situated in the southern part of the country and began operations in 1958.
At present four out of six cement kiln lines are in use and produce about 1.2 Mt of cement per year. In 2000 ShymkentCement started the production of Oil Well cement.

In Kazakhstan, Italcementi Group directly employs almost 400 people and holds around 18% of the national sales market.
