80 metric tons of efficiency: the new dumper of Ciments Calcia
June 2007

It comes from US, its name is Caterpillar 777F, it weighs 80 metric tons. It’s as high as an elephant but it weighs ten times as much.
If you should think to park it in a road you'd need a space like a quarter of a tennis field. It is the new giant dumper truck for quarry work recently delivered in the Ciments Calcia Airvault cement plant. Its use will allow to improve efficiency in transporting about 91 metric tons of materials towards the grinding plants.
It cost nearly one million euro and in ten years it’s expected to replace all the others. After an over sea starting transport from US until Le Havre, the truck – escorted  by 2 motorway policemen – took one week, at 30 km/h, to reach its destination.
It was necessary to work out a specific itinerary to obtain the concerning authorizations from the French DDE (Departmental Direction of Equipment) for the transport of this exceptional motor vehicle through the narrow streets of French villages.
